Marina Romea is one of the most recent lidos; in 1951 it was a woody and marshy district situated near the river Lamone. In 1952 a coastal road was built to connect Casalborsetti with Porto Corsini. Starting from that moment, both municipalities decided to turn Marina Romea into a tourist resort and to build numerous hotels there. In the late 60s, the Corallo Hotel Marina Romea was inaugurated. The name of the new resort was chosen by means of a competition announced by the Chamber of Commerce among the inhabitants of Ravenna and its province. The name Marina Romea was chosen to celebrate both the period when Ravenna was the capital of the Roman Empire and the famous via Romea, the most important road in the surrounding area.
